Biography

Phan Đỗ Phúc is an exceptional cellist with numerous impressive achievements in his career. In 2008, he won first prize at the chamber music competition in Italy and the Concert Competition at Luther College in the United States. In 2012 and 2017, he continued to demonstrate his talent by winning first prizes at the New York chamber music competitions.

In his teaching career, Phúc has contributed to the development of music education in the U.S. as a lecturer at two prestigious institutions: Stony Brook University and Herald Music School in New York. He has also played significant roles in esteemed global orchestras, such as the Napa Valley Festival Symphony Orchestra and the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra under the renowned conductor Valery Gergiev, as well as the New York Classical Players.

In 2020, after successfully completing his Doctorate in Cello Performance at Stony Brook University, he returned to Vietnam to assume the position of principal cellist with the Sun Symphony Orchestra in Hanoi. Phúc has performed alongside distinguished artists such as cellist Colin Carr, violinists Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer, and violist Larry Dutton of the Emerson String Quartet.

He is a founding member of the string piano trio Trio de Novo in New York, and with the ensemble, he won first prize at the Lauren V. Ackerman Chamber Music Competition in 2018 and second prize at the Vietnam International Chamber Music Competition in 2019 with the piano quartet Amici.

Phúc continuously innovates with numerous experimental music projects, collaborating with the organization Wonder Art to bring classical music to children through creative concerts such as “Từ Trịnh: Những lời gió mới” (“From Trinh: New Breezes”) and the concert series “Schubert in a Mug.” He is currently the conductor of the Vietnam Youth Orchestra, continuing to contribute to the development of classical music in the country and internationally.
