Biography

Wilson Chu is a distinguished concert pianist, improviser, composer, and piano educator. Since 2019, he has served as the youngest Associate Professor of Piano at the College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts (CCAA), Chengdu University.

He received his musical training on full scholarships, earning his Diploma, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore) and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He graduated with First-Class Honors and High Distinction (Master’s). His mentors include Aaron Shorr, Jonathan Plowright, Steven Osborne, and Roy Howat. In 2018, his dissertation project made history as he became the first composer-pianist to integrate Gamelan and piano in a concert in Scotland.

Wilson has received numerous international accolades, including Lamond, Tony / Tania Webster Russian Prize, Elgar/Speeding Memorial, NAFA Lucien Wang, Singapore International Piano Competition and Yamaha. He has also performed with esteemed orchestras such as the RCS Symphony Orchestra and the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra. His performances have been held at prestigious venues across major cities, including London, Frankfurt, Gothenburg, Singapore, Jakarta, and Beijing. His artistry has been featured in leading publications from The Straits Times, China ASEAN Magazine, The Herald Scotland  to The Jakarta Post.

A dedicated educator, Wilson conducts masterclasses and serves as a jury member for international piano competitions, including Vietnam (Hanoi), Wiesbaden, Pearl River-Kayserburg, Yamaha, Schimmel, Singapore, Melbourne, and Steinway (China and Indonesia). He is frequently invited to speak at national-level arts conferences across China and other Asian countries.

In February 2023, he became the first Steinway Teacher & Educational Partner (STEP) in Indonesia, collaborating with Steinway Gallery across Asia. In June 2023, he was appointed as an Ambassador of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for Asian countries. Since October 2024, he has also served as the Artistic Director of the Musica Lumina International Piano Competition.

In May 2025, Wilson will officially launch his Piano Studio in collaboration with Steinway Indonesia and Kakano Music Centre in Jakarta. This initiative is driven by the outstanding achievements of his students, who have won prestigious international competitions such as Steinway, Kayserburg, Yamaha, UPH, Vietnam, Ananda Sukarlan Award, London Overseas, and Basel, among others.
